The Rainforest Comes to No 1 School

We have learnt where the rainforests are in the world and why they are important. It was interesting finding out about all the animals that live in the rainforest habitat. We now have beautiful toucans and macaws flying in our room. They are such colourful birds.

Gift Boxes

What creatively decorated boxes. Everyone made a covered container and wrote a friendly letter to go inside. These will all be sent to children in Christchurch. they will contain some special treats, for those who have suffered loss caused by the earthquake.

JUNIOR CROSS COUNTRY

After weeks of training the day finally arrived. It was cold and wintery, but everyone soon warmed up as they gave their very best to the long distance runs. Twice around both of our huge fields is a LONG way. Well done to all our competitors.

PMP Time…

Twice a week, each junior class goes to PMP (Perceptual Motor Programme) in the Multimedia room. Everyone is active as they move through each of the fun activities. Children develop coordination, balance and improved motor skills. Classmates mix with each other and have fun learning together. We couldn’t run this programme without the help we receive from our parent helpers who assist with each activity.

Astronauts in Space

Room 8 has planets and rockets flying through the room. Everyone designed and created space ships to travel to the planets in our galaxy. Look who is ready to blast off. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF! Watch out for the falling stars. Everyone knows some important facts about the planets and worked out what they would take with them as they journey into space.

The Drummer Visits

Drummer Dylan Elise was incredible. Everyone got into the rhythm and clapped and moved to the beat. What an amazingly talented performance!

Yatton Park and Autumn Leaves.

Fun in the park. Exploring around the giant trees. Playing in the waterfall stream. Having lunch together.

Yatton Park is a great place to visit with all your Room 6, 7 and 8 friends. We had a yummy lunch and the sun stayed out. It was a lovely place to visit after the trip to the Fire Sation at Greeton.

Visiting the Fire Station.

At Greerton Fire Station we were able to meet the fire safety officers and see how the fire engines work. It was great to squirt water from the powerful fat hose. We had to hold on tight and work together so the hose didn’t fly around everywhere. I wonder who wants to be a fire fighter?

Get Down. Get Low. Get Out. Stop, Drop and Roll

We are now a Firewise Class. The smokehouse came to our school so we were able to crawl through the smoke house. We learnt about when and how to call 1 1 1 and ask for the fire service. Everyone knows how to give their name and address. The children have been checking the smoke alarms and are able to do the right thing if the smoke alarm goes off.

The BIG Band

The whole school had a special treat when the Girls College BIG Band came and performed for us. They were AMAZING. We cheered and clapped along.
