On 22nd October we held our school Pet Day. The children chose to create from a range of creations – Sand Tray Gardens, Vaseline Saucers, Aqua Jar, Bread-face creations, Plastercine creations and Fruit/Vege creations. They all worked extremely hard and produced amazing results!
The afternoon was full of judging of animals – so there were lots of things to look at! Georgie even ‘borrowed’ a puppy, Poppy, from the SPCA – who was on her best behaviour and was gorgeous!! An amazing day had by all!
On Wednesday 20th October the Year 5/6′s had some visitors through the Kuaka Programme. They were from the American International School in Hong Kong and were all 15-16 years old.
They shared lots of interesting information about their country and culture – giving us gifts and showing us how to make origami frogs!
After sharing, they went off with the Year 6′s down to the Jess Road estuary to finish planting in the area. After lunch we sang songs, the senior boys did an awesome haka and we all had lots of photos!
Both cultures learnt a lot about each other and we look forward to seeing more of the Kuaka visitors in future years!

Term 4 Newsletter, 2010
Over the last few weeks of Term 3, we have been constructing NASA Space Shuttles to a scale of 1:50. The children worked extremely hard in teams, designing, measuring, constructing and decorating their own unique shuttles. The shuttles had to include booster tanks, a fuel tank and the shuttle. During the construction, the children learnt a lot about space and how we get there for research.

Congratulations to Gemma who took out the Year 5/6 School Speech Finals, along with Isaac and Eden.
Well done to Anna and Katie who made the judges decision that much harder!!!
We look forward to seeing Gemma at Matahui Road School in the next round of speeches.
Over the last few weeks of this term, Room 5 has been writing and presenting a range of speeches, from All Blacks and Art, to Postage stamps and Icebergs. They were amazing speeches and the children all had great presence in front of an audience!
Well done to Anna, Katie and Gemma who made it through the tough semi-finals to present their speeches at the finals on Tuesday 31st! Good luck girls!! Watch this space…
On August 24th, the school had a pyjama day. We were allowed to stay in our PJ’s all day!! Even Mrs Thompson wore her robe and funky pink slippers! Most of the class had on their PJ’s, with robes and slippers – Anna even put her hair in a towel and held a Milo cup for the parade (winning a prize too!).
We found being in our PJ’s all day was cool, but we started getting sleepy because of them and wanted to crawl into bed in our cosy PJ’s!
It was such an awesome day! Thanks School Councillors!!
On the 27th July, SkoolStars Productions came to school to film our music videos. All the classes had been learning a song and dance to do in front of a huge green screen.
We performed ‘Grease Lightning’, having loads of fun and lots of laughs along the way.
The premiere for the videos will be on August 10th at Bethlehem Primary School at 7pm.

Well done to Jack and Stella who competed in Team B for the Young Einstein Challenge at Te Puna on Wednesday 16th June.
They were quizzed on many topics and their hard work and training (Thanks Mr B!) helped them, along with Ryan and Grace to come 3rd equal.
