On Friday 11th of May, the Year 5/6′s went down to the end of Plummers Point Road to visit Huharua Park and the Ongarahu Pa Site.

The visit was part of the Touchstone project we are learning about – where we learn about our local area and become familiar with what” in our own backyard!

We were lucky to have local author Tommy Kapai come down too and share stories and history about the pa.

Through his interesting way of delivering the information through stories and humour, all the children and parents learnt a lot of new exciting things about our history. We can’t wait to learn about lots of other exciting history in our area!

The school had a talent quest and a lot of Room 5 students showed off their skills!!

Well done to Sterre and Cleo who won the Senior Talent Quest with their ukelele playing!

On Wednesday 22 February, Rooms 5, 4 and 3 went over the hill to Lake Whakamaru Christian Camp for 3 days of jam-packed fun and challenges!!

The weather itself was challenging, however all the children were happy to complete all the confidence building activities with smiles on their faces.

The children completed activities such as: Flying Fox, Climbing wall, Archery, Air Rifles, Go-Karts, Dinghy and Lake Walk, Confidence Course, Treasure Hunt and Kayaks. We also had a marshmallow fire and a dark and spooky Burma trail!

We had a fantastic bunch of parents that helped us out with running the activities. Thanks!!

Congratulations to Patrick who was the only finalist from our school for the MADE awards – and who won the whole category!! The prize? A Lumix underwater camera worth $330!
He entered a static image ‘Eyes’ which included another member of Room 5, Alex. The photo was taken at the Quarry during Term 3′s photography unit!

Congratulations to Eden for winning the Western Bay of Plenty Speech Competition!

Eden was runner up at the North Cluster speeches, and due to the first place speaker being unable to go to WBOP, Eden stepped up to the challenge.

The competition was tough, but she took out the competition for the Year 5 section!

Well done Eden, you are AWESOME!!

Today, 30th September, we got the opportunity to experience golf through Sports BOP.

Tim taught us all to swing properly and we hit a variety of different balls. Some were better than others at accuracy and distance!

A lot of skilled children amongst us… perhaps the next Tiger Woods???
