National Young Leaders Day

The twelve House Leaders had a fantastic time in Rotorua on Monday. They were inspired by inspirational speakers such as Pio Terei, Ruth Aiken, Dave Atkinson, Cam Calkoen and Nick Tuatasi.

BOP LITERATURE QUIZ

On Friday 4 May twenty six excited teams arrived at the Tauranga Intermediate School Hall. They were there to be quizzed by the World Quiz Master Mr Wayne Mills. Every imaginable literary question was thrown at the “book worms!” One thousand dollars was at stake for for the winning team of four! So competition was firerce.
Our Year 7 team: Gabrielle, Grace, Olivia and Caitlyn were winners of the sequel category with nine out of ten and did incredibly well to come a respectable 8th place with 69/100. Well done girls!

Wellington Camp

“It was the best camp ever!” These were commonly heard words after the exciting week in our capital city, Wellington.
We went via Napier where we had one night at the Top Ten camp. It was amazing at the NZ Aquarium where we got to learn about sharks! Next stop was Te Papa in Wellington, that was fascinating and we loved the squid and earthquake house. The slow, red cable car dragged us up the hill to the Carter Observatory, wow! We watched an awesome astronaut movie.
The following day it was off to the Sound House and Capital E Studios where we loved making a “This is Your Life” TV show. The Porirua Pools offered us some wet excitement down the water slides that night.
The Weta Cave and its “stars” were next up followed by meeting Tony Ryall at parliament. We got to observe first hand the bad behaviour of our politicians in the debating chamber.
The final night showcased our talent and the “pink” parents with an entertaining concert.
What an awesome camp! Thanks to everybody involved.

SCHOOL LEADERS IN TRAINING

Debbie and Marg from the “Lead It” team at Sport BOP had our young leaders in training today.
They taught the House Leaders a lot of great skills and games that they can use to entertain other children with at lunchtime. We shall all look forward to learning from these young leaders.

FONTERRA SCIENCE ROADSHOW

The pupils were lucky enough to go to the Science Roadshow and see some spectacular science exhibits. The topics covered were communication, detection, heat, levers, gears and inclined planes, sounds and quirky curiosities. All the exhibits were hands on and students could experiment all they liked. The presenters did some amazing experiments to thrill the group such as burn through a piece of steel and set flour and meths on fire!
