Mathletics is a school wide maths activity that all the children are expected to do for maths homework. Mathletics is a fun and interactive way for your child to keep up with there Maths skills at home. In Room 11 it is expected that every child to at least achieves 500 points a week. This will give them 10 points for their house. It is great to see all those children putting their results on the class chart. Come in and have a look!

THE FIFA WORLD CUP

June 28th, 2010 by room11

On Wednesday the 23rd of June the whole school had a Fifa World Cup day. It was held on the two fields. We had it because of the Fifa World Cup being on and New Zealand is in it. Before the day we were put into countries so we could come dressed up in their colours. There was lots of red and blue and white. Our team was Brazil. We had to wear yellow tops and the hardest teams we were playing against were Korea, Serbia and France. We came 2nd but Korea came 1st by 1 more point than us. We won lots, drew twice and lost a few. After it finished we felt exhausted but proud and we had an absolutely awesome day.

Maui and the Fish

June 20th, 2010 by room11

Room 11 have been learning about Maori Legends. They retold the legend of Maui and the Fish, when Maui went fishing and caught a large fish. This fish turned into the North Island of New Zealand. For art, they got into pairs and they recreated one part of the legend using water colours and collage. These painting were then put into a slide show so the children could retell the legend.

ANZAC Day
The first week back this term, we have been looking at ANZAC Day. We have been gathering lots of information about WW1, WW2 and Gallipoli. We had one of our parents Darren Mackay come in and share all his knowledge about the war. Also we had two reading groups make ANZAC biscuits with parent help and we all made our own poppies for art.
Below is a statement each child has made about ANZAC Day.

Waihi Camp
We all had a wonderful time on our Waihi Beach Camp.
It was a busy three days full with fun, learning and plenty of exercise. We were certainly lucky with the weather.

Thank you to all the camp parents who helped make it a success. Thank you to all the parents for having your child so well equipped and for the generous donations of home baking and fruit. The children can be thanked for their awesome behaviour. It was a real pleasure to take such a well behaved class of children away on camp.

The highlights for the children were ….
>walking through the dark tunnel at Karangahake Gorge
(lucky we had torches)
>the train trip at Waikino
>the Museum in Waihi (especially the miners’ thumbs and the jail house)
>the bus trip (driven by the principal!) around the huge gold and silver
mine pit
>the activities at the Education Centre
>the surf swim
>the visit to the Information Centre and the Old pump House

SURF SAFETY DAY

March 10th, 2010 by room11

Room 11 went to the Mount beach with Room 9 and 10.
We went to learn about being safe in the sea. We all love going to the beach and had a great day in the sun and surf. We learnt what the Surf Life Savers do for us on the beach and how to keep ourselves safe. We know to always swim between the flags and to wear flippers with our boggie boards.
Here are some photos of our fun day.
