Room 1 went to Camp last week in Wellington. Here are some of our thoughts -

The best thing on camp was Weta Workshop, where they had loads of TinTin merchandise and lots of Lord of the Rings models and there was lots of Halo Wars stuff. There were also things from Avatar and The Water Horse. Weta Workshop was probably my favourite part of camp. There was a small theatre where we watched a short film about the history of Weta Workshop. I was sad when we left Weta because I was having such a great time there.
By Alec Van Lierop

My favourite thing at camp
The thing I enjoyed was going to the Army Museum in Waiouru. The tour guide Mark was really funny and it was hilarious trying on the army costumes. It was funny because Brooke and I volunteered to be quarter master and we didn’t actually know what we were volunteering for. At first Mark said we were cleaning the toilets and Brooke and I weren’t too happy about that. Finally he told us what we were actually meant to be doing.
We were meant to hand out all of the army uniforms to everyone and make sure that it was tidy at the end.
I had a really fun time.
By Lauryn

Carter Observatory!
At Carter Observatory room one and two went into a room with a big dome over the top. We sat in chairs that leant back so that we could all look up and watch a DVD about astronauts and what they had to do before they could go into space. It was really cool and at the start of it, it felt as if you were flying around and spinning it was really cool. Then we looked at the night sky of Wellington, we sped up time and then looked at what the night sky was going to look like that night. We also looked at all the constellations and saw the pot which was a little bit embarrassing, because the lady was talking to us and I thought that she wanted us to call it out and I thought that everyone knew what it was but they didn’t. Olivia and I did though, so we then called it out quite loudly and no one else did! I also liked going into the rest of the observatory and looking at all the different rocks and astronaut pictures. I also saw a piece of the moon and even got to touch it. There was also some spirit water there that said if you put your hands in, it washed away all your bad spirits (It was really cold!) I really liked the observatory it was really interesting!
By Brooke Rice

Cable CarIn the cable cars room one and room two had to split into two groups which meant two cable cars. Inside the cable cars they were quite small so we all had to squeeze in. The cable cars went uphill and if you were sitting a certain way you would be going backwards. The cable car was designed by New Zealand trained engineer James Fulton. Construction of the cable car started in 1899 and was opened on the 22nd of February 1902 carrying over 4,000 people on its first weekend of operation.
It was lots of fun!!
By Olivia van Breda

PARLIAMENTMy favourite part on camp was going to the Parliament because it was so flash and old. I liked going into the Debating Chamber and watching the Speaker. Everyone one was so noisy and they all yelled at each other. Tony Ryall came to meet us and said “hello”. This was just before he was about to go in the debating chamber. My favourite thing inside the Beehive was the old lift that we didn’t get to go in but had to walk up the stairs.
By Georgia Banyard

Te papa museum
One of my favourite parts of camp was the Te Papa museum. I loved the colossal squid and the giant whale skeleton. I liked the 3D movie on the colossal squid it was very interesting. I also liked the awesome forces part with the Earth quake house. I found the boats how we travelled and the war boats very different than boats now days. I liked the golden day’s short movie they made the electrical objects very life like.
