We were lucky to be able to visit Mandy Williams Art Studio this week to see a real artist in action. Mandy spent time explaining many of her techniques and how she worked on each canvas. Check out her great website – Mandy Williams Artist.
In class we have been experimenting with various techniques (moulding paste, tissue, gold leaf, scratching ito paint….) and are now going on to paint our own canvas works of art.
Watch this space to see our masterpieces!!

Everyone boarded the bus by 7.15 Monday morning, excited and ready to get going. First stop was Waiourou Army Museum. After an educational tour everyone got to dress up in Army and military uniforms. Anyone that didn’t follow instructions had to do push ups!!
After a good night’s sleep that first night, we ventured into Wellington city. Te Papa was first stop. So many things to see, but the colossal squid had to be a big favourite. Next it was over to Parliament, to be met there by Tony Ryall and then into the debating chamber to see our M P’s in action. We then headed back to Te Papa to view the Pompeii exhibition. It was very moving seeing the cast figures of real people that had been caught in the Mt Vesuvius eruption.
Movies. Camera. Action…. was the call on day three, as all room 1 students had important jobs so that we could film the show – This Is Your Life. Billy T James was interviewed and Jacob truly looked the part.
That day we all had the opportunity to lay down a soundtrack for a video game. Do take the time to go online to E TV Studio and see the work your child did. It was a fantastic day where everyone learnt so much. That night, after a lovely roast dinner meal we headed over to the H2O extreme pools where everyone flew down the hydroslides, and had fun in the wave pool and on the Tarzan swing.
Upon awaking on Day 4, the rain was falling heavily and the Wellington wind had picked up. Our trip to Somes Island had to be cancelled and instead we visited Weta Cave to learn about Peter Jackson and Richard Taylor’s team at Weta Workshop. Lunch was over hill in Seatoun at the spot where the Wahine ship went down. After lunch we headed into town for a quick shopping spree and then a ride up the hill on the cable car. That night it was a camp concert, which our camp mothers started with a rocking version of ‘Tonights going to be a good, good night’.
It was a busy morning getting packed up and on the bus on Friday morning by 9 am. A long trip home but everyone was tired and ready to head home to their families.
A big thank you to all our fantastic parents for making our Wellington camp a success and such a lot of fun.

Minibeasts!!! We had a very enthusiastic speaker come and talk to the students about the importance of looking after all our minibeasts and their habitats. He had us all laughing and taught us lots of new facts.
