Year 5/6 camp in rotorua!

P1010007P1010129P1010112P1010080On 22nd March, the three Year 5/6 classes headed down to Rotorua, for a few days of fun, learning, exploration, team building and more fun!

Our campsite was at Keswick Christian Camp, a fantastic venue for our large number! We stayed in cabins and villas and made use of the huge fields for sports! Lake Rotorua was just over the fence to our camp, so with Mr Broadhurst’s supervision all the kids jumped in and cooled off!

We visited the Whakarewarewa Village, Rotorua Museum, Trout Hatchery, Amazeme Maze, Lake Tarawera, Blue Lake, Buried Village, Kuirau Park and the Aquatic Centre! We learnt a lot about the area and the history of the Te Arawa people and Mount Tarawera.

Back at camp, Mr Joe and the parents organised a whole lot of team building skills, mixing the Year 5′s and 6′s together. It was a challenging but powerful experience. We also had a camp concert, full of talented actors, singers and dancers – watch out world!

Thanks to Mr Broadhurst for driving the bus, all the parents, teachers and of course, the fabulous kids!

Check out our AMAZING time in this You Tube Video!!

Room 6, 7 and 8 Happy Campers

DSCN0789P1040373DSCN0909P1040346P1040389All the Year 1 and 2 children have loved their overnight camp experience and two whole days of learning outside the classroom.

On Thursday, it was our chance to visit the animals at Marshalls Animal Park. The children were able to pat, cuddle and feed animals. They had loads of fun whizzing down the flying fox and watching the huge eels under the waterfall.

Camping overnight was great fun. We had a huge crowd for the barbeque tea and put on a little concert where the parents all joined in. The school field was covered with tents, as everyone bedded down for the night. It rained a bit, but that didn’t matter as we still had a neat time sleeping at school.

After breakfast, on Friday, we headed over to the Mount beach for some sand building creations and then down to the rock pools where we explored and found plenty of rock pool creatures. After a yummy lunch, we relaxed at the hot pools before heading back to school.

It was great to mix with all the junior children and have plenty of fun learning together and getting to know each other better.

Many thanks to all the wonderful parents who helped make the Room 6,7 and 8 camp such a success.

Carwash, Cookies & Coffee for Christchurch!

P1010032P1010020P1010014On Saturday 12th March, the Year 5/6 classrooms joined forces and held a 2-hour carwash bonanza!  The line of cars never seemed to end, but everyone got stuck in and washed, washed and washed some more!! The parents stood by watching their cars go from filthy to shiny in a matter of minutes! There were hot drinks and plenty of baking available too.

After a full-on 2 hours, the money got counted up and we had fundraised the grand total of $834!!

Well done Rooms 3, 4 & 5!!

Playing in the Native Bush!

P1010002This year the Native Bush is a fully functioning playground! With the path, fences and even a few giant logs to sit on, it is a perfect place to relax, play, get creative and explore! We love it!

On Monday 28th February, the school put an ‘Entry Fee’ on the gates – donations of money, food or water for those in Christchurch in need. We raised an AMAZING $882 along with an entire 4WD load of water and food! Well done everyone!!

We also observed 2 minutes of silence on Tuesday 1st March in respect of Christchurch.

The Year 5/6 syndicate is organising a ‘Carwash, Cookies & Coffee’ fundraiser to be held on Saturday 13th March with all proceeds going to Christchurch.

Come along and support the cause!

Welcome to 2011!

I hope everyone has had a great holiday and are now ready for school. This term is full of activities – Camps, Life Education, Swimming and of course, lots of LEARNING!

Room 1 and 2 have had a makeover, with new walls, carpeting and a very handy bifold door between the two classrooms for a huge working space. Room 3 has had new carpet too, completing its renovation.

Welcome to Aaron Joe, our new Year 5 teacher in Room 4 and Natalie van Dijk, returning to be Aaron’s release.

Remember to check out all the classes webpages during the term and the year to catch up on what everyone has been doing. Also, tell your friends and families overseas too!  Feel free to comment on our posts – the children love feedback on their work.
