Year 5/6 Kiwiana Trip to Otorohanga

On Friday 21st May,P1000226P1000267P1000244 Rooms 3, 4 and 5 went to Otorohanga, the Kiwiana capital of NZ.  We went to the Kiwi house and saw 2 kiwis up close and lots of native birds and lizards. Scott, from the Kiwi house, told us all about the precious wildlife in New Zealand and the dangers to them – like rats, cats and dogs.  Then we went in to the town and walked around the town, filling in our quiz forms from all the Kiwiana displays in shops. There was also a Sir Edmund Hillary walkway that had lots of cool NZ facts and displays. To top of an awesome day, we all got a ice cream and a giant jaffa! Yum!

Thanks to Mr Broadhurst for driving the bus and all the parents that took cars and explored with us. Check out the classes webpages to see more photos and information.

Keep up the reading kids!!

Below is a video of a school in the U.S.A who loves to read – perhaps it will inspire our children to read, read and read some more!! Go Readathon!

Sgt Jacko’s Road Safety Visit

Thanks to Dan the Puppet-man and his very talented puppeteeP5050127rs – Radar and Matt,P5050103 we wereP5050147 entertained and educated with a Road Safety show.  Sgt Jacko, Porangi the Pukeko, 3 excitable possums and a few other characters, made sure that we knew the road rules and consequences of not following them.

We all learnt a lot and through their amazing skills, reminded ourselves of what we should be doing around roads.
