School Speech Finals

Tuesday 31st August, saw the finalists from the Year 3-8 perform their well-rehearsed speeches in front of a very excited audience. The students entertained us with topics ranging from – ‘Keeping Healthy’, ‘Tuataras’, ‘Rock climbing’ to ‘Vampires’, ‘Coke’ and ‘Robot Teachers’.

Well done to all the finalists – Francis (Year 3), Elina (Year 3), James (Year 4), Eden (Year 4), Katie (Year 5), Gemma B (Year 5), Anna (Year 5), Gemma T (Year 6), Alec (Year 6), Georgie (Year 7), Isaac (Year 7), Daniel and Erin (Year 8).

Year 5/6 Sevens Tournament

On Monday 30th August, the Year 5/6’s travelled to Katikati College to take part in the North Cluster Sevens Tournament.

We had teams in Rugby, Soccer, Mini-ball and Netball. Everyone played their hardest, with some wins and some losses. There was a lot of tough competition and although we didn’t make it through to the next round, all the teams had a lot of fun!!

Thanks to all the coaches, referees and parents that helped us out on the day!

pyjama day

On Tuesday, August 24th the School Councillors organised a Pyjama Day for the whole school! Everyone dressed up – from Year 0’s to the teachers! Just before morning tea, we had a parade under the dome, with prizes given out for all kinds of pj’s!

It was loads of fun, especially being able to stay in pyjamas all day!

We are tough at no.1!!

On Saturday 14th August, a collection of 20 staff, friends and students competed in the 6km Tough Guy/Gal Challenge in Rotorua.

It was a challenge with constant rain, chest-deep swamps, slippery mudslides, demanding obstacles - but they all made it back in one piece with muddy smiles on their faces!!

Well done to all the SURVIVORS!

Skoolstars experience

On Monday 27th July, Skoolstars Productions came to school to film all the classes music videos. All the classes had chosen a song to sing and dance to, from ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ to ‘Summer of 69′.

They first recorded the children singing the song and then group by group, they filmed them dancing with a green screen behind them.

The next step is to send all our fabulous footage to Christchurch to get edited and ready for the premiere at Bethlehem Primary School, 10th August at 7pm! DVD’s will be available on the night for $20.

We hope we all look as awesome as we performed!!

Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3!

We hope that everyone had a fun and relaxing break and that everyone is ready to begin again with enthusiasm and smiles. This term is 10 weeks, full of busy activities, so keep an eye on your e-mails and the class webpages to see what everyone has been up to!

Omokoroa Soccer World Cup

On Wednesday 23rd June, our school held the first Omokoroa Soccer World Cup. Using the FIFA World Cup as inspiration, each syndicate of the school were allocated countries and through a round-robin competition, played each other for the title of ‘Ultimate Champion’. The weather held out, which made our day amazing! – Congratulations to the winners – Y1/2: Nigeria, Y3/4: Korea, Y5/6: Uraguay and Y7/8: Ghana.

International Students go bush!

On Tuesday 22nd June, the ISV (International Students Volunteers), organised by the Kuaka Conservation Volunteer Programme, came to school to help plant more than 400 new native plants and trees into our native bush area.

The students were from lots of different countries – USA, Canada, Malaysia, Japan, China, UK and more! They were all very enthusiastic about our school – from the Jump Jam songs, school tours by the classes, the planting with the Enviroschools monitors and Room 3, to the fun soccer and basketball games in the afternoon with Room 1 and 2.

Everyone benefited from the visit – the different cultural experiences and expanding native bush for us, the experience of a Kiwi school culture and a conservation effort by the visitors.

Our Native Bush looks fantastic!!
