It has been a very busy start to the year! The pool is making great progress with framing going in ready for pouring. All of the children have experienced a lot on the different camps they went to. A lot of sporting success too, swimming especially.

Next term brings more learning, challenges and events, such as the ‘Mathathon’ fundraiser and Cross country.

Principal Awards

The last day of term saw the school holding it’s first assembly of the year. Rooms 6,7,8 and 9 shared some wonderful art and songs they had been learning. We also heard some beautiful singing from everyone.

Congratulations to those students who received a Principal award. You deserved it!

Talent Quest

In the last week of term the seniors organised a talent quest. There were a huge range of ages and talents, which made it hard for Mr Broadhurst and Lauryn to judge! Congratulations to all the winners!

WBOP Swimming Success

Congratulations to those swimmers who placed in the Western Bay of Plenty Swimming Competition. It was tough competition with schools from all across the Bay of Plenty area! We are very proud of your achievements!

The big band comes to school

On Friday 23rd March, the Big Band from Tauranga Girls College came to entertain us with their delightful jazz music. They are entering (and practicing) for a big music festival competition. They won the competition last year, and they are aiming to do so again!

We wish them all good luck!

Year 1 Camp Adventure

Recently the Year 1 children, (Rooms 6 and 7) went on camp to the Lonely Tramper.

We had a wonderful time!

We rode BMX’s, made pumice pets, boats and kites, did weaving and leaf rubbing.

Later we went on a bush walk and had a swim in a pool with a waterfall slide!

When it was dark we walked through the bush to look at some glow worms; it was very exciting.

We slept in bunk beds and then the next day went to McLarens Falls and to Fernland Spa Hot Pools.

Our camp was awesome. The children were great and the parents amazing.

Thank you to everyone for making it such a great camp!

Year 3 and 4 Camp Experience

Last week 54 Y3/4 students went on camp to Waihi Beach. They were accompanied by 14 parents and 3 teachers. They had an adventurous walk in the Karangahake Gorge “windows’ followed by a swim and or sand sculpturing.

The next day they learned a lot about gold mining, through visits to the education centre, gold mine and Waihi Museum.

On the final day they had a walk at Bowentown and swim at Sapphire Springs. The teachers would like to thank the amazing parents for taking such good care of their groups as well as with cooking and cleaning. We truly could not have done it without you.

World of Maths

On Monday 5th February, the World of Maths came to school. Graeme showed us a lot of new and interesting maths activities for all the different levels throughout the school. It was completely interactive and covered a range of ideas within Maths. A lot of problem solving and knowledge was involved, making it an enjoyable and educational experience for all!

Room 8 and 9 Happy Campers

All the Year 2 children loved their Kaimai overnight camp experience at ‘THE LAZY TRAMPER’. This included two whole days of learning outside the classroom. The children were able to ride their bikes, build boats, sketch bush pictures, go on a scavenger hunt, and enjoy loads of fun, games and sport. They even experienced the challenge of sliding down the cold slippery waterfall. When it got dark, we all dressed up warm and went for a walk in the bush to see some amazing glowworms.

On Friday we all kayaked around a small island at McLaren Falls Lake. Blair Anderson showed us how to use the paddles correctly. Later we headed to Fernland Spa for lunch and a warm relaxing swim before heading back to school.

It was great to mix with all the Year 2 children and have plenty of fun learning together and getting to know each other better. A HUGE thanks to all the wonderful parents who helped make the Room 8 and 9 camp such a success.

Year 5/6 Camp at Lake Whakamaru

From the 22-24th February, rooms 3,4 & 5 went down to Lake Whakamaru Christian Camp for 3 days of exciting and confidence building activities. Even though it rained for most of the camp, all the children were very enthusiastic about all the tasks at hand!!

Activities such as a climbing wall, confidence course, go-karts, dinghy and lake walk, marshmallow fires and a challenging burma trail made the camp fun and worthwhile.

Thanks to all the parents who lent a hand throughout the camp!!
