SMITHY!
Tuesday 4 August 2009
It was truly a night to remember. The live band roared to life and the students proudly sang ‘School Stinks’. The 377 people in the audience were cheering and stamping their feet with the music.
The main character Smithy, played by Jonty, was an energetic and funny boy who was perfect for the role.
The crowd laughed and cheered as the muscial carried on. The mistakes in the first act were bearly noticeable, if people were late on their lines it did not matter when they were on stage. Alex who played Ms Byrde was a fantastic nervous wreck. Her singing was bold and proud.
Smithy is about a boy who turns the whold school upside down. With Smith in the school play things can only get worse! But in the end when the glamorous critic saw the play (and the fire) she thought it was ‘Wonderful Darlings!’
Smithy was presented by Omokoroa No 1 School and was fantastic. The director Liz Webster really brought the characters to life. Choreography and music was all done byt the superb Natalie van Dijk and of course Christine Birchall and the wonderful live band.
Smithy is one of the best shows Baycourt has ever seen.
